The “Economy Class Syndrome” (Thromboembolic Disease)
Prolonged sitting with bent legs and with front edge of the seat pressing into the back of the knees obstructs the free flow of blood in the leg veins for any length of time on a long-haul flight. This may initiate the process which ultimately leads to thrombosis (clotting) and obstruction with edema (swelling) of the tissue in the legs.

How to prevent the “economy class syndrome”
The following options in your accommodations are offered and especially designed for you during your recuperation
  • We advise you to walk around as often as possible during your flight to keep your blood circulation going (get an aisle seat).
  • Drink lots of water and not alcohol as this dehydrates your system. Take along your own water to tide your over while attendants are busy.
  • While you are in your seat, alternately contract and relax different muscle groups, especially those of the lower legs, thus helping the blood flow in your legs.
  • We would like you to purchase and use Full Length Anti-Embolism Stockings for the duration of your flight to Tunisia, during and after surgery.
Please Note: It is important that you follow the above precautions in order to avoid any complications as a result of developing an embolism during the flight.

  • It is important that your haemoglobin– HB blood levels are adequate prior to surgery, especially clients having Liposuction and / or Tummy Tuck.
  • Taking Iron Folic tablets prior to traveling and surgery can only benefit your post operative healing process and assist your body in correcting your Haemoglobin levels post-operatively.
  • Please do not take any of the following 10 Days prior to surgery :
Aspirin and Ecotrin Products containing e.g. Disprin, Anti Inflammatories - Voltaren, Brufen, Vioxx, Norflex Co, Arnica, Herbal supplements, A and E prior to surgery. Your intake of both Garlic and Chilli should be stopped.
When in Tunisia
Pre-operative consultation – Surgeon
  • We believe that you need to make an educated choice, so please, ask questions.
  • Both you and the surgeon are under no obligation until after your pre operative consultation.
  • Surgery & Holiday remind you that all cosmetic surgery carries a risk and has limitations which could lead to disappointment with the results.
  • You should agree about the anticipated outcome of your surgery and concur about your expectations of the results.
  • You should thoroughly understand the risk of the procedures you intend to undertake and discuss alternative treatments.
  • Please be sure that you have completed the consent form with full details of medical status.
  • If any dispute arises the surgeon is only liable if litigation takes place in Tunisia, under Tunisian Law.
Any medical or surgical advice provided through the Surgery & Holiady web site and service, even if intended to be accurate to the best of our knowledge, should be discussed with the Surgeon.
The Anaesthetic
We will only use a registered medical doctor, who is a Specialist Anaesthetist, to administer an anaesthetic.
  • Medical History
Any medical problems, allergies and all medications that you are taking should be notified on your medical history form for the surgeon. This gives the Anaesthesiologist time to plan and avoid any unnecessary delays.

  • Fasting
You should not take any food or drink for 6-9 hours prior to surgery to decrease the risk of vomiting and other complications that might arise.

  • Medication & Medical Problems
Routine Oral medication should be taken with a small volume of water up to 2 hours prior to surgery; Please discuss any medication that you are unsure of prior to travelling.

Diabetic and Asthmatic patients must discuss the management of their medical status with the Anaesthetist prior to travelling.

  • Prior to Surgery
Before surgery, the Specialist Anaesthetist will visit you in the ward for a full detailed consultation. Please relate any adverse reactions to previous anaesthetics suffered by you or your family.

HB- Haemoglobin blood test may be done on clients prior to surgery especially those having Liposuction and Tummy Tucks. We strongly advise that you take the correct precautions by having your blood tested prior to travelling and taking Iron Folic tablets.

After your physical medical evaluation neither you nor the surgeon are obliged to proceed with the surgery.

It is therefore very important to submit medical reports (if you have any medical condition) from your Physicians prior to your arrival in Tunisia. These will be assessed by the Physician and surgeon in Tunisia.

  • After Surgery
The Anaesthetist will ensure that you are awake and in a stable condition before discharging you to the ward where you will be given something to eat and drink.

If after your surgery you experience any excessive pain or nausea do not hesitate to tell the nurse on duty. They will administer the medication prescribed by the anaesthetist.

  • Surgical Considerations
During all surgical operations, there are fundamental principles which are followed before, during, and after each procedure. These are all intended to achieve optimum healing by correcting or controlling co-existing medical problems in any given situation.

In the case of cosmetic surgery, a significant advantage is the good physical health with which most patients begin. Complete removal of scars is impossible since it is the body's natural response in the healing process. At best, one can minimize unfavourable scar development by eliminating all of the known obstacles to primary healing. Planning surgical incisions within normal tension lines and natural skin folds will be advantageous, as will meticulous careful surgical wound closure techniques. It is not possible, however, to predict the character of final healing with complete accuracy. It should also be noted that complete healing for most scars will require a minimum of six to eight months. Under some circumstances, final healing may require twelve months and possibly longer.

The patient must play a part in his or her own treatment program by adhering strictly to post-operative instructions.
