Cosmetic eyelid surgery, also called belpharoplasty is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. This surgery can treat sagging skin that creates folds or hides the natural contour of the upper eyelid, bags under the eyes, excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelids.

The best candidates for this surgery are women and men whose skin show the first signs of weakness but still have good elasticity. Blepharoplasty is normally performed under local anaesthesia with sedation (which means that you will be awake but relaxed and insensitive to pain) .

In the most common surgical procedure, which consists in contouring the orbital muscle and the fat bags and in removing the excess skin, the incisions are placed in the folds of the upper and lower eyelids and they are practically invisible. If there are fat bags in the lower eyelid and it is not necessary to remove the excess skin, the surgeon can perform the so-called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, without making external skin incisions.

The blepharoplasty operation lasts FROM 1 TO 2 hours and ends with the application of ice on the eyes. There are no age limits to undergo this kind of surgery. Most patients who resort to blepharoplasty are aged between 40 and 60, but even at the age of 70 and 80 this surgery is performed successfully . Blepharoplasty can be performed alone or in combination with other interventions such as eyebrow-lift, additive mastoplasty, liposuction ..
